FLOATING GARDENS

JAMSU bridge transformation project over the Han River in Seoul. The aim is to completely exclude the bridge from vehicular traffic and pedestrianise it, create the park on the river. The difficulty in implementing this scheme is related to the fact that once a year the Jamsu Bridge is flooded by the Han River.

The competion entry seeks to provide the connection with nature through biophilic design in a simple and modern style, and focused on the shape and texture of nature, creating a space that gives the feeling of nature flowing within a linear bridge through organic walking paths and installations.
The floating garden, which changes constantly depending on the water level of the Han River, maximizes interesting visual effects while focusing on maximizing the benefits of the surrounding environment. It also provides opportunity for an auditory experiences from the cascades located at both ends.

The design proposal also provides opportunity to experience the river & and its beauty during a cold winter period. It proposes East & West pavilions “Winter Gardens” located on the raised section of the bridge. A haven of relaxation, tranquility, meditation, escape from the hustle and bustle of the metropolis in the very center of the city.
