5 ROGOW SQUARE COMPETITION DESIGN (HIGHLY COMMENDED)
The design response seeks to provide a radical thus striking revamp solution; to create a timeless, elegant and flexible environment that gives the square back entirely to pedestrians and cyclists, whilst not compromising on its functionality. With its (complex) simplicity it aspires to become an iconic destinationin the heart of Warsaw – perhaps a New York Times Square like image. The mature native trees organised on a rhomboidal grid respond to the key views, functionality and architectural language of the surrounding buildings. They are the critical element that builds and organise the plaza – the main infrastructure that provides a healthy, relaxing, inspiring, dynamic and change-able environment in the heart of otherwise heavily urbanised and trafficked city centre. The proposal seeks to promote wellbeing for the local community and visitors, and boost the economy of many local businesses.
